Cost
One thing that is often omitted from Wikipedia articles is cost. Budgets for towns, hospitals, etc. An in-law recently was in an ICU for 30 days. His widow got a bill for $250k, or $8k/day. I realize that this varies by country, but it needs to be considered. Student7 (talk) 15:27, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- The cost for ICU treatment is well recognised and should probably be mentioned. I'm sure there are studies of cost-effectiveness of certain ICU interventions. JFW | T@lk 11:47, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
The cost of operation of ICUs in pounds needs to have an equivalent amount displayed in dollars, for people in the U.S. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.72.159.14 (talk) 20:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC) The cost of the the treatment, all tests (mentioning evry test individually), the total cost, including, doctor's charges, department charges, test charge or any otther hidden cost charged for every treatment should be clearly explained in detail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 43.250.210.56 (talk) 10:39, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Provision
PMID 18766102 looks at the dramatic differences between Western countries in terms of ICU provision. Might well be worth citing. JFW | T@lk 11:47, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Well done
To all who have help to fix up this article over the past few weeks well done. You have turned it from what seemed an extremely biased, negative piece into a much more informative article. However, despite the improvement, there is more to be done. May I once again recommend we find someone who has literature on ths subject. This person may like to include some information about the medicine of ICU, for example the objectives, in more detail. Perhaps talking about the goal of regaining homeostasis in the patient could be included. If this is not done in the next few weeks it is possible that I can obtain some literature on the subject through a university medical library when I return to uni in march. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick30790 (talk • contribs) 13:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- G'day Nick30790. I have access to plenty of ICU literature, so let me know if you want me to look for a source on something in particular. However I wouldn't wade too deep on the critical care medicine topics because of duplication in the intensive care medicine article. Cheers, Basie (talk) 19:07, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

References
I cleaned up the references that are listed. Additional references would be useful. Article could use improvement overall.MrBill3 (talk) 08:08, 25 May 2013 (UTC)
I added two external links to NHS choices and MedlinePlus websites pages on intensive/critical care. Both could be used for references in improving the article and both have quite a few links.
I also removed WP:Advert material that didn't contribute to the article. - - MrBill3 (talk) 08:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on ICU capacity
ICU capacity is not only one of the main features of the COVID-19 pandemic, it's becoming one of the main drivers. Triage and so on. kencf0618 (talk) 16:23, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
