Winning moment

I've changed the statement:

When Heather was crowned Miss America 1995, she could not hear host Regis Philbin say her name, and it was not until the first runner-up gestured to her that she realized she had won.

to read:

When the first runner up was announced, Whitestone could not hear host Regis Philbin but could read his lips. Surprised, she looked to her fellow contestant for confirmation that she had won.

I base this on footage of her win that I just saw in the documentary Journey Out of Silence: The Heather Whitestone Story, which recently aired on my PBS station. I suppose someone could object to this as "original research", but I see that she clearly looked surprised and even looked right at the camera, visibly "shaken" by the announcement, before she turned to the other contestant for confirmation — she obviously could tell that Regis had not said "Miss Alabama" but instead "Miss Virginia" (as the first runner-up), and thus knew that she had won. So I had to change the article to reflect this. Now, whether this information is significant enough to include in the article is another matter, but I couldn't let the original wording stand, since it is so clearly not supported by the visual evidence. - dcljr (talk) 09:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good start to the article, but needs more citation and references. Photo of her would be useful. Edofedinburgh 14:49, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
