Election procedure

I rewrote the Election Procedure section. Although it does not cite references, it was clearly based on [1]. This document was actually its author's master thesis, and as he was not a committer at the time, he relied on publicly available information and interviews with committers (including myself and Poul-Henning Kamp). It should be viewed as a description of how elections had been held at the time, not as a regulation describing how elections must be held. The only authoritative source on this subject is the text of the bylaws, which supports very little of what was in the article and even contradicts some of it. Core 0 is Absent

This article is missing the pre-2000 Core team members: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en/articles/contributors/contrib-corealumni.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.170.143.17 (talk) 18:56, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Still relatively incomplete

The description of the creation of the bylaws in 2000 is curiously missing the hand Poul-Henning Kamp played in selecting the team that wrote the bylaws. I suspect this is because the behind the scenes dealing was undocumented and often conducted through personal phone calls rather than email or a more recordable communications channel. I think that now, more than 20 years on, the FreeBSD Project and all of its various contributors and users owe Poul-Henning quite a bit more thanks than he has ever received.

Perhaps we should get Michael W. Lucas, or another of our fine documentarians, to re-interview some of the people from that time before they or their memories are gone. Softweyr (talk) 07:26, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
