3 Feb 2013 Brother or cousin...
Listening to BBC Radio Three just now, I heard a passing comment that said "it turns out that the Purcells were cousins". Has new research settled the question? There was also mention to an upcoming episode of Radio 3's Early Music Show (1pm (UK) totday). And a harpsichord piece called "Loves Last Shift", so eveidently thre is more known of Daniel's work than the sketch presently listed at WP. I hope someone who knows can refine the current Daniel Purcell page!

I heard the same on France Musique, but it would be interesting to have an indication of the evidence. Should the first sentence be marked 'citation required'? Gove is given as a reference, though this cannot be the primary source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MartinRDBennett (talk • contribs) 10:28, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I did my PhD on Daniel Purcell, so the primary source for the works and biography is probably my PhD thesis (Oxford, 2006). The argument around brother or cousin is partly driven by Daniel's age on his marriage license, which would preclude him from being Henry's brother (Henry's father being dead by the time Daniel would have been born). There is other more circumstantial evidence as well. Mark Humphreys — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.76.22.3 (talk) 13:30, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
