Hello,

Over the next few weeks I plan to separate the topics of 3D and 2D animation into two separate categories as is noted on this article's "To-do list." I will be sure to preserve the content and particularly focus on making the article more readable and organized by allowing each sub topic to have its own section. Feel free to leave any suggestions here or questions about what I will do here. ZacZig (talk) 18:07, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely support. —theMainLogan (tc) 01:40, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
is this still happening? Some related articles that also need some work are virtual cinematography, and the Traditional animation article, which is terribly named and mixes digital 2D animation and hand-drawn cel animation. — jonas (talk) 05:10, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support They are entirely different. RuzDD (talk) 11:59, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So, it's been over a year. Shall we do the split? Lililolol (talk) 04:11, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think so. Not being solely a reason and not being limited to these articles, seperation between 2D and 3D CGI should be made well. RuzDD (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Should we request a closure first do you think? GothicGolem29 (talk) 23:48, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Asking because Wikipedia:Splitting says to close the discussion. GothicGolem29 (talk) 23:48, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind it says any user can close so I will close and perform the split. GothicGolem29 (talk) 23:53, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New topic structure

Hello all - I see that there is a plan to split the article into 2d and 3d animation pages but I have a different idea - given that animation has advanced so much, there is now 1d, 2d, 3d, 4d (yes it exists now), and hybrid. So instead I would like to remove the 2 parts and discuss the coordinate systems and how they make the animation disciplines different. This will also enable us to make the article more specific on the topics which are ubiquitous across, for example, 2d and 3d animation. SnoopLoops (talk) 20:01, 13 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What is the page being split into

It appears there is a [[]] when there should be something that is being spilt Redbreadwater (talk) 16:31, 5 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it refers to § Splitting 3D and 2D into two different categories here, i will fix this tomorrow, i have to sleep. (deprecated) i woke up now i realized that the topics of 3D and 2D animation want to split into two separate categories as is noted on the article's "To-do list", the result was split and the discussion is closed because it says any user can close so @GothicGolem29: closed and performed the split. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2025-33332-36 (talk) 16:04, 19 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
When are they @GothicGolem29 @RuzzDD @ZacZig @TheMainLogan @Lililolol @jonas going to split the article. I guess it has been more then two years post the discussion. VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 12:55, 16 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@VerdictByLogic Hi, I will spill it in the coming hours/days Lililolol (talk) 20:57, 17 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thinking about it, don’t y’all think that the 2D and 3D sections are too short and unsourced to be standalone articles? Lililolol (talk) 21:04, 17 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The same question arose in my mind as well. Therefore, I tagged every user who voted for the split. Regards, VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 12:56, 18 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

i think Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse should be added to the list of examples of computer-generated animation ngl

i personally think made a pretty big impact on animated movies and deserves to be there...but im not smart enough to add it there myself so im asking here Purikaze (talk) 21:05, 25 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please specify, where do you want to add your addition. I mean to say which subtopic etc. Thank you. Regards, VerdictByLogic - Let's Discuss 12:51, 16 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
