Talk:Circle mark

"used to represent affirmation in East Asia, similar to its Western equivalent of the checkmark"

Is this true? For instance, http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-2521 seems to use the O mark for affirmation. Esumii (talk) 01:20, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's true. In many cases, 'O/X' means like 'T/F(True/False)' or 'Y/N(Yes/No)'.

Sorry if I was unclear (and sorry also for my very late response!), but my question was whether such uses are limited to East Asia only, that is, whether they are not seen in "Western" cultures. (FYI I am a Japanese and quite used to such uses of the mark.) Esumii (talk) 05:07, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

O markCircle mark – This is precisely not a letter 'O', and the current title is therefore inappropriate. Imaginatorium (talk) 14:49, 15 January 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 15:35, 22 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Proposer's comment: The opening of the article has just been changed from the obviously incorrect "O mark" (with a letter 'O'), but now includes a Unicode "geometric shapes" character, known by them as "WHITE CIRCLE". (Odd that most people would call it a black circle, and yes I know, but) Semantically, of course it is not a "geometric shape", it is an "affirmation mark" (a name I just made up, so we can't use it). AIUI, article titles are supposed to be "in English", meaning no symbols not normally used in languages using the Roman alphabet (or something similar), hence my suggestion of "circle mark", taken from the edit by User:The 141. But I am open to any other suggestions.

Circle symbol is fairly confused. It shows the "WHITE CIRCLE" character as being a gender symbol, and the LARGE CIRCLE redirects to this article. It does seem to me that Unicode is not a reliable indicator of distinctions like this, but we could deal with that later. Imaginatorium (talk) 15:21, 15 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
