Talk:Anthony Head

Interview

There's a long interview in the Mirror newspaper here (saved here for later use) --Phil | Talk 10:22, Dec 21, 2004 (UTC)

Change the title?

He's only creditted as Anthony Stewart Head when he appears in American series. I think it would be better to take out "Stewart" as he is most often creditted as just Anthony Head.

  • I agree.
  • He isn't a fighting game character (all those pages are wrong as well). The Stewart is only used on the Buffy credits and seeing as it says 'more commonly known as Anthony Head' that's what this page should be renamed to.--Mr.bonus 17:20, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well the Viscount is Antony Head, without the 'h', where the actor is Anthony, with the 'h'. So Anthony Head should be the title of this article with a link at the top leading to the viscount.--NeilEvans 20:57, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
*In the UK, he's always credited as Anthony Head. Seeing as he is English, and he was famous here before Buffy, he should be listed as that name, in my opinion 80.7.186.169 (talk) 00:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony Stewart HeadAnthony Head — Request by user 81.145.241.220: The actor is more often credited as the latter than the former. The disamb at Anthony Head should be removed and a line placed in the actor page, stating that there is also a dead Viscount by the same name. PC78 21:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - Support votes

  1. Support move to Anthony Head since this is the name used on the actor's official website. The dab page can be moved if necessary, but is there really any need to have a dab page for two similar but non-identical names? A top link on each article should be sufficient. PC78 21:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support as above.--NeilEvans 22:22, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support - as above, official site etc. -- Beardo 06:14, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Survey - Oppose votes

  • Oppose He is most noted for his role in Buffy and he was always creditted as Anthony stewart head. 205.157.110.11 00:02, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment, his acting career covers almost 30 years and is hardly defined by his role on Buffy. PC78 09:39, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Dude, show his picture on the street and what do you think the average Joe will remember him for? Buffy? Most likely. Maybe the Taster's Choice commercials but his name wasn't creditted then. 205.157.110.11 03:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Perhaps in America, but he's British and a far more polific actor than what you seem to think. PC78 04:17, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • I know that they get Buffy in the UK and there are quite a few Buffy fans there as well as worldwide syndication. It is undoubtly his most notable acheivement and the only work of his that will come anywhere close to passing the 100 year test. It is what he is most recognized for and it his billing is his most recognizable one. 205.157.110.11 04:53, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • The popularity of Buffy is not in the issue, but you can't possibly say with any degree of certainty what will or won't be remembered 100 years from now. Buffy is merely one of his acting credits in a 30-or-so year long carreer, and one of the few where he is credited as Anthony Stewart Head. PC78 17:04, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Add any additional comments:
Comment To say he is most noted for Buufy is wrong, maybe in america he is. But in the UK, I don't think he has ever been credited as Anthony Stewart Head. Also if you go to his bio page on imdb.com his name is goven as Anthony Head and then it says he is occasionally credited as Anthony Stewart Head.--NeilEvans 00:36, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

treu horror

how come hteres totally nothing about his program 'treu horror', or 'the truth behind horror' or whatever it was called that he showed for a while? i know it discontinued rather quickly but it still deserves a mention. there piece about zombies was rather shocking and intreging.--Lygophile 00:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Musician

Is it appropiate for Head to be labeled as 'musician'? According to the Singles section he has only ever released one single. If this is the case, would classifying him as a musician not be a little too narrow?—♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 09:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He has also released an album with George Sarah called 'Music for Elevators'. Muncher666 23:51 13 August 2007

Coffee

In the UK he's well known for his role in a series of nescafe adds from the 80s as mentioned in the article, He was well know for this before the buffy and little britain so i think it should be mentioned in the opening paragraph.(Morcus (talk) 23:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Right hand?

Why does he always keep his right hand out of sight? AuntFlo (talk) 12:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because it is deformed.--95.147.97.245 (talk) 03:14, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change from 'Tony Head' to 'Anthony Head'

I've checked IMDB, and nowhere on Anthony Head's page is he credited as 'Tony Head'.
There is a seperately listed 'Tony Head', but he's a totally different actor.
Anthony Stewart Head (the guy this article is about): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0372117/
Tony Head (not the guy): http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1179565/
I hope that rectifies any confusion Giovnni (talk) 09:11, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For that matter, the claim that he is usually credited as Anthony Head seems to me untrue - he's been Anthony Stewart Head in Buffy, Repo, and all Doctor Who-related roles, which are among his biggest roles. Phil Sandifer (talk) 15:34, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Six degrees

He was interviewed in the Metro for his appearance in the play Six Degrees and in searching for the article online I found a few other interviews with him that might be useful as sources. They all mention his early fame for the Nescafe adverts, supporting claims made above.

  • "60 SECONDS: Anthony Head". {{cite news}}: Text "http://www.metro.co.uk/showbiz/interviews/16905-60-seconds-anthony-head" ignored (help)
  • "60 SECONDS EXTRA!: Anthony Head".
  • "Anthony Head unravels the social network".

This article oddly mentions his family life twice under both Early life and Career but in neither case does it actually link to his daughter Emily. In the Metro article he mentions acting with her in the Invisibles and her role in the Inbetweeners. -- Horkana (talk) 12:31, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of comment on right hand

Hi all,

I've removed the bit about Head's right hand per Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons. Although there's some other unsourced items in this article, claiming someone has a deformity is potentially contentious enough to warrant removal in the absence of a reliable source. Please do not add this back in without a proper citation. --jonny-mt 04:23, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Change status as "pescetarian" to "ovopescolactarian"

I tweeted Mr. Head to ask him about this bit of information (are you a pescetarian?), and he answered back that he's an "ovopescolactarian". I'm suggesting the page be edited to reflect this. See image of twitter convo here, or check his twitter posts for October 22, 2012, or check my twitter post for the same day. 99.252.96.170 (talk) 21:34, 29 October 2012 (UTC)Peggy <ref>twitter convo October 22, 2012</ref>[reply]

Death date

His Playbill obituary is noting his date of death as June 1. Should we go ahead and go with this or wait? TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 21:09, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

For a little while after his death this very page said 1 June without a source, since an editor kept repeatedly adding it. No other source gives this date including the announcement by his family. Are we certain this isn't a case of citogenesis? ~2026-33511-26 (talk) 10:27, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
We should wait until multiple sources agree on an exact date. The sources used on the page do not state an exact date, so we shouldn't have one. I've gone ahead and removed this. Strugglehouse (talk) 14:41, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of numbers of sources, if his family have not given a date, that decision should be respected? Martinevans123 (talk) 14:48, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I should have worded it a bit better. I meant that we should follow WP:BLPSOURCES, and only publish material which is widely and reliably sourced, especially for personal information like this. Actual reliable sources won't make facts up, so if a date isn't given by the family, it won't be mentioned by reliable sources anyway. If multiple, reliable sources do report this, it'll be from an official source, so should be okay to include. Strugglehouse (talk) 15:59, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Quite agree. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:17, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the specific date, moved the Playbill source to a footnote, and added a hidden note to not add a specific date without reliable sources. Strugglehouse (talk) 16:31, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think that's very clear for now. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:54, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

My question is why is Playbill's reporting being discounted here? It came later than most articles, and made specific identification of a date. Everywhere else is just a regurgitation of the initial press release and subsequently just referred to different outlet's reporting. Rusted AutoParts 17:10, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Fair question. Playbill is an American monthly magazine, but I guess, following Ted Lasso, he was equally notable in the US. They may have contacted the family separately. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:19, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have reached out to Margaret Hall, the writer of the article and seems to be Playbill's main obituary writer. Rusted AutoParts 17:23, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not discounting it fully, I'm just saying we shouldn't necessarily rely on one single source for a claim like this. If nowhere else states the full death date, I don't know if we should/can fully trust it. Strugglehouse (talk) 18:21, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, that's how reporting works, especially when an article comes after the initial announcements, which the majority of the articles published did. Playbill is a theatre magazine, focused specifically in this field. It would be one thing if they published June 5 as being the date of death, cause it would stand to assume they're figuring the date of announcement was the date of death. But Playbill is publishing a date of death of June 1. It's evidentially not coming from nowhere. As I said, I've reached out but the basis of Playbill being the one spot saying it shouldn't be overlooked because all the other outlets hurried out an article, because as stated those are generally just regurgitating one another. Rusted AutoParts 18:31, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Variety does not give any date. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:36, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
They were also part of the early dash to report the news. And largely directs their report from the BBC's report, which got the announcement from the Press Association. Rusted AutoParts 20:19, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The Guardian and Liverpool Echo also give June 1 as the date of death:
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/showbiz-news/anthony-head-sarah-fishers-lifelong-34078331.amp
https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jun/07/anthony-head-obituary
A question to all moderators out there who want to ”play it safe”, since we are obviously always going to be stuck with different sources saying different things, what’s it going to take to agree on a date of death? Another official statement from his family, a death certificate or a picture of his grave stone? Please advice… ~2026-33823-88 (talk) 16:57, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It might be wise to wait and see if Rusted AutoParts gets any reply to his enquiry at Playbill? Martinevans123 (talk) 17:03, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm perfectly happy including it now more sources have been found. I'd trust The Guardian with this, and I'm sure the Liverpool Echo is reliable enough.
I can't see The Times article without purchasing a subscription, but by the preview on the Google search, it looks as though that has "June 1, 2026" as a date too.
I see no reason to exclude it now. Strugglehouse (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No objections. We seem to have multiple WP:RS sources. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:37, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have now updated the article and added the obituary from The Guardian. ~2026-33823-88 (talk) 17:42, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thank you. Strugglehouse (talk) 18:40, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It's "the prime minister", not "the Prime Minister"!

I have been falsely accused of "vandalism" for actually correcting this style mistake in the article. The MOS is very clear on this matter. Responsible editors such as myself should not be falsely accused of vandalism for correcting obvious style mistakes. It is offensive. ~2026-30377-82 (talk) 22:33, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Completely correct. Not sure why this is being reverted. The ClueBot NG revert was obviously a false positive, and I'm not sure why it's being reverted outside of this.
"prime minister" (lowercase) is correct per MOS:JOBTITLE:

Offices, titles, and positions such as [...] prime minister [...] are common nouns and therefore should be in lower case when used generically
