Imprecise Rail CO2 Claim
Current article states: "Rail creates less carbon dioxide emissions than flying for trips up to and beyond 1,100 miles, but its CO2 advantage fade on longer routes past 500 miles."
"Up to and beyond" is technically meaningless. Additionally "its CO2 advantage fade on longer routes past 500 miles." is imprecise.
Based on the source cited, both diesel and electric rail on average provide CO2 advantages over air for transit up to 1,100 miles, the maximum range provided in the paper's figures.
Diesel powered rail advantages over air peak at ~500 mile trips, while electric powered rail advantages continue to increase up to 1,100 miles.
Propose revising the statement to "Both diesel and electric powered rail create less CO2 emissions per passenger than air travel. Diesel powered rail's advantages over air peak at approximately 500 mile trips, while electric powered rail's advantages continue to climb as travel distances increase." ~2026-27363-61 (talk) 18:46, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
