Highway 229 heads east from its western terminus at Highway 47. About 4.8 kilometres (3 mi) from Highway 47, it turns north for 1.6 kilometres (1 mi) towards Good Spirit Acres. At that point, the highway goes in two different directions. One carries on north for another 1.4 kilometres (0.87 mi) into Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park where it provides access to park amenities Good Spirit Lake, and the cottage subdivisions of Kitchimanitou and Donald Gunn.[2] The other resumes Highway 229's original eastward direction towards Highway 9 where it passes by Horseshoe Lake Wildlife Refuge, provides access to Burgis Beach (via Tiny Road), and crosses the Whitesand River.
