Sangeet Natak Akademi Award Award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (IAST : Saṅgīta Nāṭaka Akādamī Puraskāra), also known as the Akademi Puraskar ,[ 1] is an award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi , India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. It is the highest Indian recognition[ 2] given to people in the field of performing arts.[ 3]
In 2003, the award consisted of Rs. 50,000, a citation, an angavastram (a shawl ), and a tamrapatra (a brass plaque).[ 4] [ 5] Since 2009, the cash prize has been increased to ₹1,00,000.[ 6] The awards are given in the categories of music, dance, theatre, other traditional arts and puppetry, and for contribution/scholarship in performing arts.[ 4]
