Publication history

Proxima Midnight first appeared in New Avengers #8 (September 2013), and was created by writer Jonathan Hickman.[2] She later appeared in the 2013 Infinity series[3] and the 2017 Unworthy Thor series.[4]

Fictional character biography

Proxima Midnight is a member of Thanos' Black Order and wife of fellow member Corvus Glaive.[3] She is sent to Earth to retrieve an Infinity Gem from Namor,[5] but battles the New Avengers.[6] She was humiliated by Thanos' disapproval of her actions as well as the fact that Namor did not actually possess the Gem.[7] Proxima and the rest of the Order were directed by Namor to Wakanda to search for the Gem, but were distracted when Ebony Maw revealed the location of Thane, Thanos' son. However, Thane rebels against Thanos and traps him and Proxima in amber.[8]

Namor frees Proxima, as well as Thanos, and recruits them into his Cabal.[9] However, Namor soon finds himself hating the Cabal's tactics and works with the Illuminati to defeat them.[10] After escaping the destruction of the multiverse via a "life raft", the Cabal end up on Battleworld and attack its residents.[11] However, God Emperor Doom disperses the group throughout Battleworld, with Apocalypse imprisoning Proxima and Corvus.[12][13]

Following the restoration of the multiverse, Proxima works with Hela to retrieve Mjolnir.[14][15] However, they fail and Hela kills Proxima in front of Thanos.[3][16][17]

During the "No Surrender" arc, Proxima Midnight is resurrected by the Challenger and battles the Grandmaster's Lethal Legion.[18]

Powers and abilities

Proxima Midnight possesses the typical attributes of a super powered individual including superhuman strength, speed, endurance and durability.[6]

Midnight also wields a spear that was forged from a star, possesses homing properties, and can release fatal toxins.[19] It can also revert to star form, entangling others in energy.[20]
