Masjid Sallim Mattar
Sallim Mattar Mosque (Malay: Masjid Sallim Mattar) is a mosque in Singapore serving the Muslim community in the Macpherson Estate. It organizes madrasahs on Sunday and the Friday Prayer. It is located along Mattar Road opposite Macpherson Primary School. HistoryThe mosque was originally located near Kallang Airport but it was required to move away due to the building of Kallang airport in the 1930s.[1] The villagers raised $2,000 which was matched by Shaikh Sallim Mattar, a Singaporean merchant of Arab descent and also a prominent leader of the Muslim community in Singapore, to buy a piece of land and to build a mosque on it.[1][2] The mosque was then named after Shaikh Sallim Mattar and was officially opened in 1935.[1] In 2001, the mosque was rebuilt from a single-story building into a new four-story building.[1] In 2014, the mosque was one of the 15 mosques selected in the second phase of the Mosque Improvement Program (MUP).[1] As part of MUP, the mosque started the Light Project to modify the multipurpose hall located on the fourth story of the building and construct an elevator to it for ease of access for elderly worshippers.[1][3] It had projected SGD2 million for the renovations.[3] TransportationThe mosque is accessible from Mattar MRT station.
