The cattle aboard as cargo also reached shore, where all but two were washed away and lost; the island became known as "Cattle Island' because of the shipwrecked cattle. The steamer Fountain City ( United States ) picked up the passengers on 31 May, and Fountain City and Sea Bird ( United States ) later picked up the crew.
