At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 20,301 in 5,478 households, when it was in the former Borkhar District of Borkhar and Meymeh County.[4][b] The following census in 2011 counted 22,321 people in 6,606 households,[7] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Borkhar County. Khvorzuq was transferred to the new Central District.[5] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 29,154 people in 9,011 households.[2]
