Ȫ (minuscule: ȫ) is a grapheme used in several extended Latin alphabets, primarily to represent specific vowel sounds in Old High German reconstructions and certain modern regional dialects. It consists of the letter O with both an umlaut and a macron. Usage
Linguistics: In the study of Germanic philology, the character is used to denote a long, fronted mid-rounded vowel ([øː]). It specifically indicates the long version of "ö" in historical phonetic transcriptions. Livonian: While rare, similar diacritic combinations appear in the Livonian language to represent vowel length and quality simultaneously.
Computing codes In Unicode, the character is represented as:
Uppercase Ȫ: U+022A (Latin Capital Letter O with Diaeresis and Macron) Lowercase ȫ: U+022B (Latin Small Letter O with Diaeresis and Macron)
In HTML, it can be rendered using the entities Ȫ for uppercase and ȫ for lowercase. See also
