QC Manufacturing is an American manufacturer of residential ventilation products headquartered in Temecula, California. Doing business as QuietCool, the company manufactures whole-house fan systems as well as attic and garage fans.[1][2] The company was founded in 1999 and appeared on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for seven consecutive years from 2015 through 2021.[1]

History

According to company history published by QuietCool, the concept for the business originated in 1999, and the first QuietCool product, the QC-1500 whole-house fan, was introduced in 2004.[3] In 2009, the company said it received U.S. Patent No. 7,497,774 for its whole-house fan system and moved into a 5,000-square-foot facility.[3] QC Manufacturing later expanded into a 17,000-square-foot building in 2011 and a 50,000-square-foot facility in Temecula in 2013.[3] In 2014, QuietCool introduced the Pro Series, marketed to contractors and dealers.[3] In 2015, the company said it began manufacturing major components in-house.[3] In 2019, QC Manufacturing moved into a 162,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in Temecula.[3] In 2020, the company said it installed an automated robotic manufacturing cell and introduced roof-mount whole-house fans and solar attic fan products.[3]

Products and patents

According to the California Employment Training Panel, QC Manufacturing manufactures whole-house fan systems that use less energy than traditional HVAC systems; its products include ventilation, attic, and garage fans.[2] The company states that it holds patents related to whole-house fans, roof-mount whole-house fans, smart attic fans, automated whole-house fan systems, fresh-air intake systems, and automated window systems.[4]

Recognition

QC Manufacturing appeared on the Inc. 5000 list each year from 2015 through 2021.[1] In 2019, Dane Stevenson of QC Manufacturing received the "Family Business Entrepreneur" award at the Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards organized by the Inland Empire Business Journal.[5]

Government programs

In 2019, the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development approved a California Competes tax credit of $750,000 for QC Manufacturing, describing it as a whole-house fan manufacturer based in Temecula.[6] The agreement was later amended in 2021.[7] In 2024, the same office reported that $350,000 of the awarded credit was recaptured after the agreement expired at the end of the 2023 tax year.[8]

Regulatory matter

In December 2017, QC Manufacturing agreed to a $205,000 settlement with the California Energy Commission after the agency said that certain whole-house fan models had been listed in the state's Appliance Efficiency Database with airflow and airflow-efficiency data that could not be verified by the Commission's testing laboratory. Under the settlement, the company agreed to a compliance plan and updated testing procedures.[9]
