PhillBill

Diyani Bill Munyenge (born 27 December 1991), known professionally as PhillBill, is a Cameroonian singer, songwriter, music producer, sound engineer and artistic director.[[1]][[2]]. He is known for his work as a producer in the Cameroonian music industry and for the development of the Afro-Bikossa[[3]] musical style. As a producer, PhillBill has worked with artists including Blanche Bailly, Kocee, Locko, Mimie and Daphne. He has received recognition through nominations at the TRACE Awards and AFRIMMA and is associated with the development of the Afro-Bikossa musical style.[[4]] PhillBill first gained recognition as a music producer under the name PhillBill Beatz [[5]], producing songs for artists including X-Maleya, Lady Ponce, Longue Longue, Daphne, Blanche Bailly, Kocee and numerous other performers across Central Africa. He later achieved commercial success as a recording artist through his work with the music group Ridimz and subsequently through a solo career centered on the promotion of Bikossa[[6]].

Early life and education

Diyani Bill Munyenge was born in Buea, Cameroon. He attended Bilingual Grammar School Buea before studying Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Buea. In 2008, he travelled to Nigeria to further develop his music production skills before returning to Cameroon and beginning a professional career in music production.

Career

Early production career

Following his return from Nigeria, PhillBill established himself as a producer under the name PhillBill Beatz. During the 2010s he became known for producing music for established Cameroonian artists and was credited on numerous commercially successful recordings within the country's urban music scene.[[7]]. His production work contributed to the careers of several prominent artists.[[8]]

Ridimz

PhillBill was a member of the Cameroonian music group Ridimz, formerly known as Rythmz. The group gained attention with songs including Honeymoon and later released the EP Addiction[[9]]. Ridimz achieved wider recognition following the success of the song Shabasiko, which became one of the group's most recognised releases.Following the group's separation, PhillBill pursued an independent artistic career.

Solo career

As a solo artist, PhillBill focused on establishing a distinct musical identity based on Cameroonian cultural heritage. His releases include La Clé, Même Si Tu Pars, Bikossa, Malova, Sélé, Condiment and TÈTÈRI. In June 2025 he released his debut extended play, The SoundMan, an eight-track project blending Afropop, Amapiano, Soul and Trap influences with Cameroonian musical traditions.

Musical style and artistry

PhillBill's music combines elements of Makossa, Assiko, Bensikin, Mangambeu and other Cameroonian musical traditions with contemporary African urban music. His work incorporates Afropop, Afro-fusion, Amapiano and modern production techniques while maintaining a strong emphasis on Cameroonian cultural identity. He has described his artistic mission as preserving and modernising traditional Cameroonian musical influences for contemporary audiences. PhillBill is associated with the development and popularisation of Bikossa, a musical style that merges traditional Cameroonian rhythms with modern African popular music. Bikossa has been discussed in media coverage as a contribution to the preservation and modernisation of Cameroonian musical heritage.
