hear.com is an international hearing care company founded in 2012.[1] The company provides hearing aids and audiology services through in-person and remote care models.[2] It was founded in Germany by Marco Vietor and Paul Crusius.[3]
History
The company was founded in 2012 as an online hearing company called Audibene[4] by German business students Marco Vietor and Paul Crusius.[1] The company initially focused on online sales of hearing aids[5][6] and connecting customers with audiologists through consultations and referrals.[3] In 2015, the company was established as hear.com for the American market.[1] The company developed its own line of devices called Horizon, which it began selling in 2021.[1] In 2021, hear.com withdrew plans for an IPO due to market volatility.[7] As of 2025, the company employed approximately 1,100 employees and the U.S. was its largest market.[1]
Products and services
hear.com sells hearing aids from multiple manufacturers as well as its own branded devices called Horizon.[1] The company developed the Horizon line of devices after 3 million consultations. The design of the devices was based primarily on feedback from younger baby boomers who wanted features for an active lifestyle.[1] The device includes digital clarity enhancement, smartphone connectivity, and audio streaming capabilities.[8] As a healthcare services company,[9] hear.com provides in-person and remote services.[10] The company connects customers to local audiologists or facilitates remote hearing assessments and fittings.[1] Remote assessments are conducted through mailed diagnostic equipment and video consultations with licensed audiologists. The remote process includes ear examinations using a digital otoscope, multi-frequency hearing tests. Once prescribed, hearing aids can be adjusted remotely by audiologists.[2]
