Gamehole Con

Gamehole Con is an annual gaming convention held at the Alliant Energy Center, Exhibition Hall in Madison, Wisconsin. The convention features table top role-playing games as well as board games and historical miniature gaming. [1]The event also hosts live-action role playing (LARPing), a vendor hall and an annual collectors' auction for charity. It is billed as "the largest majority RPG gaming convention in the world."

Over 6000 attendees came to Gamehole Con in 2025. “Gaming is a massive hobby in this country,” says Gamehole Con Executive Director Alex Kammer. “Certainly in Madison, Wisconsin, we’re very close to the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons, which was born in Wisconsin. So, we have a huge number of gamers here in the Midwest and around the country.”[2]

History

The name "Gamehole" comes from the name of the basement gameroom where the convention organizers used to play and was inspired by the "hobbit-hole" home of Bilbo Baggins, the protaginist in J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit.[3] Gamehole's innaugural event "GHC I" was held at the Madison Sheraton in 2013 and again in 2014 "GHC II. In 2015 the event was moved to the Alliant Energy Center where it has continued since.
