Whippany merupakan lokasi area lepas pada Hanover Township di Morris County, New Jersey. Cedar Knolls merupakan area lepas lainnya pada Hanover Township. Nama Whippany merupakan berasal dari kata Whippanong penduduk asli Amerika, sekelompok suku yang pernah tinggal di daerah tersebut. Whippanong berarti "tempat pohon dedalu", dinamai seperti itu karena merupakan pohon-pohon yang tumbuh di sepanjang tepi Sungai Whippany[1]
