Wereng pohon[1] adalah anggota-anggota dalam famili Membracidae, yaitu sebuah kelompok serangga yang berkerabat dengan tonggeret dan wereng hijau. Sekitar 3,200 spesies wereng pohon dalam 400 genera telah diketahui.[2] Semuanya ditemukan di selmua benua kecuali Antarktika; hanya lima spesies diketahui dari Eropa.[3] Seekor wereng pohon biasanya hanya hidup hingga beberapa bulan.
