Sandeothallus adalah genus kecil dari lumut hati yang terbatas pada Asia Timur. Genus ini diklasifikasikan dalam ordo Pallaviciniales dan merupakan satu-satunya anggota famili Sandeothallaceae dalam ordo tersebut.[4]

Genus ini disirkumskripsikan oleh Rudolf Mathias Schuster dalam Nova Hedwigia vol.36 pada halaman 10 dan 15 pada tahun 1982.

Nama genus Sandeothallus diambil untuk menghormati Cornelius Marinus van der Sande Lacoste (1815–1887), yang merupakan seorang dokter dan botanikus (briologi) asal Belanda. Ia berpraktik kedokteran pada tahun 1843 di Amsterdam.[5]
