Owen Jones (lahir 8 Agustus 1984) adalah seorang kolumnis surat kabar, komentator, wartawan, penulis, dan aktivis politik Inggris.
Ia menulis kolom untuk The Guardian dan berkontribusi pada New Statesman, Tribune, dan The National dan sebelumnya menjadi kolumnis untuk The Independent.[1] Ia memiliki dua serial web mingguan, The Owen Jones Show dan The Owen Jones Podcast.
Kehidupan awal dan pendidikan
Jones lahir pada 8 Agustus 1984 di Sheffield dan dibesarkan di Stockport. Ia bersekolah di Bramhall High School dan Ridge Danyers Sixth Form College. Dia mengambil jurusan Sejarah di University College, Oxford, dan lulus pada tahun 2005. Ibunya adalah ilmuwan komputer Inggris, Ruth Aylett, dan ayahnya, Robert Jones, adalah seorang organisator serikat pekerja. Mereka bertemu melalui keanggotaan mereka dalam Militan,[2] sebuah kelompok Trotskyis dalam Partai Buruh. Robert Jones menderita kanker prostat dan meninggal pada tahun 2018.
Sebelum terjun ke dunia jurnalisme, ia bekerja sebagai pelobi serikat pekerja dan peneliti parlemen untuk anggota parlemen Partai Buruh John McDonnell.[3] Pada satu titik ia juga disewa oleh sejarawan Eric Hobsbawm untuk mengindeks dan mengarsipkan dokumen-dokumennya.[4]
