Ophidiasteridae adalah keluarga bintang laut yang terdiri dari sekitar 30 genus bintang laut. Anggotanya berhabitat di perairan Indo-Pasifik dan Atlantik, tetapi keanekaragaman terbesar terdapat di Indo-Pasifik. Banyak genus dalam famili ini menunjukkan warna dan pola yang cemerlang, yang terkadang dikaitkan dengan aposematisme dan kripsis untuk melindungi diri dari predator. Beberapa anggotanya memiliki kekuatan regenerasi yang luar biasa, memungkinkan mereka bereproduksi secara aseksual atau bertahan dari kerusakan serius yang disebabkan oleh predator atau pengaruh alam (contohnya adalah genus Linckia). Beberapa spesies milik genus Linckia,[1] Ophidiaster,[2] dan Phataria[3] melepaskan lengan tunggal yang meregenerasi cakram dan tulang yang tersisa untuk membentuk individu yang utuh. Beberapa di antaranya juga bereproduksi secara aseksual melalui partenogenesis.[4]
