Hondurodendron adalah genus monotipe dari pohon yang endemik di Honduras. Satu-satunya spesies dalam genus ini, H. urceolatum, ditemukan selama survei botani tahun 2004 dan 2006 terhadap tanaman di Taman Nasional El Cusuco di barat laut Honduras. Spesies ini kemudian dideskripsikan pada tahun 2010 oleh Carmen Ulloa Ulloa, Daniel L. Nickrent, Caroline Whitefoord, dan Daniel L. Kelly dalam Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden.[2]

Genus ini ditempatkan dalam famili Olacaceae, ketika famili tersebut disirkumskripsi seperti dalam sistem APG IV.[3][1] Sumber lain menempatkannya dalam famili segretan Aptandraceae.[4]
