Eciton adalah sebuah genus semut tentara Dunia Baru yang mencakup kebanyakan spesies-spesies semut tentara yang familiar. Yang apling terkenal diantaranya adalah Eciton burchellii, yang lebih umum dikenal sebagai semut tentara. E. burchellii adalah spesies tipe dari genus ini.

Eciton burchellii dan Echiton hamatum adalah semut tentara yang paling sering terlihat dan yang paling baik dipelajari, karena mereka mencari makan di permukaan tanah di siang hari, dalam gerombolan yang besar.
