Datuk Seri Al azhar adalah seorang budayawan, sastrawan, dan ketua MKA (Majelis Kerapatan Adat) Lembaga Adat Melayu Riau masa khidmat 2017-2022.
Ketua MKA LAM Riau
Musyawarah Besar (Mubes) VII Lembaga Adat Melayu (LAM) Riau, Rabu (17/5/2017) malam, akhirnya menetapkan Datuk Al Azhar sebagai Ketua Majelis Kerapatan Adat (MKA) LAM Riau. Selain itu, Mubes LAM Riau juga menetapkan Datuk Syahril Abu Bakar sebagai Ketua Umum Dewan Pimpinan Harian (DPH) LAM Riau.[1]

Al azhar pernah memerankan Raja Ahmad, ayahanda pahlawan nasional Raja Ali Haji dalm film tahun 2009 Mata Pena Mata Hati Raja Ali Haji arahan Gunawan Paggaru.
