Akuamarin atau Biduri laut adalah jenis beryl berwarna biru pucat hingga hijau muda.[1] Warna biduri laut dapat diubah oleh panas (meskipun praktik ini tidak disukai oleh para kolektor). [2]

Biduri laut memiliki komposisi kimia sebesarBe3Al2Si6O18, [3] juga mengandung Fe 2+ .[4] Ia memiliki kekerasan 7,5–8 pada skala Mohs .[5] Meskipun biduri laut sering kali tidak mengandung inklusi, [6] biduri laut dapat memiliki inklusi, baik terlihat atau tidak, terdiri dari kandungan seperti abrak,badar besi, atau air asin. [7]

Biduri laut dalah batu permata yang umum. [8] Namun, ada varian biru tua yang lebih langka yang disebut maxixe, [9] tetapi warnanya bisa memudar karena sinar matahari. [10] Warna maxixe disebabkan oleh NO 3 .[11] Warna maxixe biru tua dapat dihasilkan dari beryl hijau, merah muda atau kuning dengan menyinarinya dengan radiasi energi tinggi ( sinar gamma, neutron atau bahkan sinar-X ).[12]
